A Biennial Juried Fine Art Exhibition and Sale
The Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens San Marino, California

The San Marino League will hold its sixth juried Fine Art Exhibition and Sale at The Huntington, the magnificent former estate of Henry and Arabella Huntington, now an intellectual and cultural powerhouse that attracts over 750,000 visitors annually. Art Matters attracts some of the country’s best artists and will feature not only over 150 exceptional juried paintings, but also original 3-D art including glass art, ceramics, pottery, sculpture, and jewelry created especially for the show by selectively invited artisans.
The juried fine art exhibition will be anchored by nine Featured Artists chosen from a list of outstanding painters, representing a wide variety of styles and mediums. We are pleased to announce our Featured Artists for Art Matters 2020:

Opening Night Reception and 3-Day Sale
Friday, March 27
Invitation-only Opening Night Reception and Sale. Invited guests will enjoy the opportunity to meet the artists and enjoy refreshments, while having the first chance to purchase art. Invited guests may return to the show on Saturday and Sunday without charge of admission to The Huntington.*
Saturday and Sunday, March 28-29
Exhibition and Sale will be open to the public. Entry to Art Matters 2020 will be included with price of admission to The Huntington.
~ ARTISTS ~
Call for Entry
Entries will be accepted for paintings in all art movements and styles of any media. Artist entry forms and additional information about our show and awards will be posted on Call for Entry.org (CaFÉ) on July 1, 2019.
Proceeds from the sale will go 50% to the Artists and 50% to the San Marino League’s two philanthropies: Student Fine Art Scholarships at ArtCenter College of Design and the Japanese Garden Endowment at The Huntington. Cash awards will be given for Best in Show, 2nd Place, 3rd Place, Best Depiction of Iconic Landscape or Structure, and Best New Artist.
Accepted artists will be offered the opportunity to paint in the magnificent gardens of The Huntington during three days in February 2020.
Applications must be received by January 10, 2020.

An Environmental Design alumnus of ArtCenter College of Design, Seth Baker has been designing gardens at The Huntington for over a decade. He is renowned for his fine eye for texture, color, detail and design.

ArtCenter College of Design
Stephen Nowlin has been director of the Williamson Gallery since its opening in 1992. As gallery director, he has nurtured collaborations with a wide range of institutions, including the California Institute of Technology, Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the Huntington Library. Nowlin says, “Curating science and art shows, for me, is a form of art practice.”

Richard Rice has been a fine art dealer since 1981 and is a specialist in graphics and oil paintings of the mid- to late 19th century and 20th century European Masters. He travels extensively to participate in exhibitions in Hong Kong, Singapore, New York and Miami.
